Several months ago, after our recognition of the IF Archive’s 25th anniversary, a community moderator from contacted IFTF to ask if we’d like to write an article about the Archive. As the name of the website suggests, has interest primarily in articles about free and open-source software; while the Archive does host its share of FOSS, we ended up agreeing to write a more general study of the intersection between interactive fiction and open source.

That article, authored by yours truly, is now online, under the headline A brief history of text-based games and open source. I think it turned out pretty well, and I invite your comments on it. Enjoy!
